Proposals for major purchasing

Major purchasing for the purposes of this conversation is anything over $300

What should be included

A well-drafted proposal should answer core questions leadership and members would have about the idea or item being proposed. Questions the officers and board will always have are:

  • What is your base rationale for this spending?
  • How does the thing proposed support the ACE Mission?
  • How many people will benefit from it (be pragmatic)? Example of a stretched benefit statement: this tool helps people make chairs and everybody needs chairs, so everybody will benefit from this.
  • How will the space be impacted?
  • How will users be impacted?
  • What is the plan to make this accessible to people?
  • What is the maintenance plan? How much will consumable parts cost?
  • What special needs does this thing or tool have? And how much do they cost?
  • If a tool and not a service, why this tool? What makes it the right choice among those available for the ACE community?
  • How much will it cost? Include all associated costs like shipping, space downtime, special movers, and so on.
  • What additional fundraising are you (the proposer) willing to do?

This is not an exhaustive list but should give you an idea of the information that should be included.

Who to submit the proposal to

If there is a primary steward or team post to slack (in the relevant channel) and use their handle. If there is not a clear steward email it to officers @acemakerspace.org
