== Design Development ==

A subcommittee meeting with Mike, Dennis, and Tracy occurred after the August 30th Monday meeting.

Mike proposed a more direct design that exhausted through the roof instead of using the lightwell as was previously suggested.

This idea would have an 8" round duct come up through the second floor plate from the wood shop and run against the wall in the upper room, then penetrating the roof. A vent would run from the metal shop through the wall between the two shops to T into the riser.

This preserves the electronics shop ventilation.

It would require a new exhaust fan.

I think it is a solid idea with approval of the landlord. –Dennis

== Written description of the work ==

In order to provide ventilation to the shop we would like to run an 8" duct though the second floor and up through the roof, and also connect both lower rooms.

This requires:

* The cutting of a 8 1/2" dia hole in the roof.
* an 8 1/2" dia hole in the 2nd floor plate.
* and an 8 1/2" dia hole in the wall partition 3" below the top of the wall.

This will allow the duct to pass through in these places.

The top of the duct will need a cap to prevent the passage of water.

No joists or ledgers will be cut in this process, or any fire sprinkler piping impacted.

The duct will be affixed with metal straps either secured to studs within a wall or hung from the bottom chord of the I-joist.

Beam clamps are a good option:

=== Notes ===

On the second floor – At the midpoint of the lightwell
* from floor to ceiling at the lowest point is 7′-0 1/2"
* from floor to ceiling at the highest point 16′-5 1/2"
For a difference of 9′-5" in height on this line.

The height to the ceiling on the high side of the lightwell it is 12′-1 1/2"

The difference between the high side of the lightwell and the highest point in that line is 4′-4"

I believe the sections are only $8 for a 24" length, so its much more important to locate it where we want it than try to make it shorter to save $$.
