Spline jig

Spline jig

Overview

This jig is designed to cut splines — thin wooden strips fit into matching slots — in a miter joint using the table saw. Splines are used to both to add mechanical strength to a joint and as accents.

Setup & use

The spline jig can be found in the front room of the workshop against the back wall (behind the jointer). It should be returned there after use.

  1. Unplug the table saw and remove the blade guard
  2. Set the jig rail along the table saw fence. Check that the jig can slide smoothly along the fence.
  3. Clamp your piece into the jig (miter facing down). Adjust the blade height to the desired depth of your spline slot.
  4. Adjust the fence to align the blade to the center of your piece
  5. Slide the jig along the fence to run your piece over the saw blade and cut your spline

Safety

  1. This jig is used with the table saw. Standard table saw safety rules apply.
