How to update Storage Tags

This is how we update tags from an operational perspective. This work is done by leadership teams, staff, and trained volunteers.

The general principle is to check the dates on the Blue Tags and Red Rag for anything expired. Then check the blue tag dates for people store stale projects. Then check the red tags and deal with the abandoned goods. There are area-specific instructions below for each storage area and the space in general.

We also add Gold Tags to items when extensions are granted.

We are moderating for:

  • Unsafely stored items
  • Items improperly stored
  • Expired Tags – Blue, Red, and Gold

Storage is checked daily and all storage areas are purged 1x per month.

General Space

Most surfaces should be clear. For example the tables upstairs in Clean Fab. Occasionally people forget things. A sweatshirt here, a random thing there. If you find things like that do the following:

  1. Fill out a red tag
  2. Attach it to the item (tape or rubber bands work great)
  3. Put it in the Lost and Found bin

Weekly Tag Update

This is done 1 time per week, usually on Fridays. It takes about an hour to do. This involves checking ALL Basic member storage areas. See below for protocols for each area.

  • Check for Gold Tag Requests (see Adding Storage Exception Tags – Gold Tags Below)
    • Prepare tags for any new requests
    • Add to items while updating
  • Check Blue and Gold Tags
  • Red Tag if:
    • The Gold Tag Extension has expired
    • The Blue Tag Has Expired
    • Somebody has re-blue tagged an item. Please also take a photo and send to Crafty with any additional information you may be like. “I saw this every week for the last X weeks and they keep adding new blue tags”
