This is a draft document that aims to capture both what we’ve been told by John of Forest CNC and what we learn from actually doing the procedure.
From John:
Vacuum all the dust and shavings from every part of the machine, if necessary, use an air compressor to blow dust out of crevices.
To clean the X-Y rails:
- Soak rails in WD40 and then run the gantry back and forth 3-4 times to really get the gunk out of the tracks.
- Use the grease gun with the correct nozzle and grease all the nipples for the tracks. Run gantry back and forth to get the grease bedded in.
- Repeat steps 1-2 3 times.
To lubricate the Z-axis worm gear:
- Use 3-in-1 oil and run the Z axis up and down 3-4 times. Probably need to put a rag or something underneath so as to not drip oil everywhere.
Check the bearing on the ?axis? driveshaft
- locate bearing (picture) and make sure that it’s still inserted correctly and is true
- if not, remove and apply red loctite to the bearing
FYI: There are a total of 10 grease nipples; need to take photos and document for this wiki.
The CNC care kit included:
-
- correct nozzle for the grease gun that is already in place under the CNC bed
- Shell Gadus S2 V220 2 Grease
- replacement brushes for the vacuum shoe
- replacement knurled screws to hold the brushes in place
- Key pin for the ?need to check with Peter?
