We have Four types of tags used to manage stored goods at Ace Makerspace in dispensers in every room. Extra tags are stored on the grey cleaning supplies closet in suite #113 Storage.
About Untagged Materials. Any materials that are not tagged in all member storage areas are considered fair game and available to all members.
Blue Tags
Blue Tags are used by members when they store goods in any Basic Member Storage Area. All member-owned items at Ace must be tagged.
Ace does not provide long-term storage. Basic Member Storage is available for free to members for two weeks with blue tags. If you need more time please request an extension. Extensions (Gold Tags) can be granted on a case-by-case basis. Apply for a Gold Tag here to request an extension.
Items dated more than 14 days old will be considered abandoned and will be red-tagged.
NOBODY IS GOING TO CHASE YOU DOWN VIA EMAIL OR OTHERWISE. You are responsible for your materials. We require contact info on the tags so that we can notify you if your materials need to be moved. We will not notify you if your tag is expired.
Red Tags
Reasons items may be red-tagged. Expired blue tag, stored in an improper area, No blue tag. If this item belongs to you please remove it ASAP. After 15 days from the notice, this item will be considered abandoned. Abandoned materials may be re-purposed, consumed or disposed of at the discretion of ACE. Members may call dibs on red-tagged items and claim them after the date.
- Reason items may be red-tagged
- Expired claims tag – blue tag
- Expired extension – gold tag
- Stored in an improper area
- No claims tag – blue tag
- Stored unsafely or in a way that causes damage
Red tagged items should be removed or dealt with right away. After 14 days from the red-tag notice, the item will be considered abandoned.
Abandoned materials may be re-purposed, consumed, or disposed of at the discretion of ACE. Unsafe items may be moved, rearranged, or disposed of right away in order to ensure a safety
Gold Tags
Ace does not provide long-term storage. Basic Member Storage is available for free to members for two weeks. Exceptions to the two-week storage limit can be made for the following cases:
- Active projects. Projects that you are returning to work on at least every two weeks and that have a somewhat predictable end date.
- Tools you consistently use
- Materials in bin storage that are cycled regularly for production purposes
You must have an approved storage extension (Gold Tag) on file to get extended storage privileges. Storage extensions are unlikely to last more than 8 weeks for project materials but will be granted on a case by case basis.
Only approved ACE leadership and staff can add gold tags. This is not something members can do for themselves… they can only make the request.

- Extensions are reviewed Tuesdays, Thursday’s and Saturdays
- Members are sent a notification and when applicable a Gold Tag is added to their stuff by ACE staff.
Green Tags
This project, material or goods are part of an ACE Makerspace project build or program. They are not available for general member use and are NOT SUBJECT to storage expiration.
