Front door

Member Access

Active Ace members who are up to date on dues have a door code for the main building.

  • Members are provided a passcode when they activate their fobs via an automated welcome email.
  • Members can log in to the Ace website to find the passcode on the handshake page of the Ace website. (This page is only accessible to logged-in Ace members with an active Ace membership.)
  • Members are asked not to share the door code and to direct other members to look it up themselves using their active Ace membership.

Guest Access

Guests and visitors without access credentials should use the intercom system to contact the member or suite they are visiting. Ace members and instructors inside the Ace Makerspace suites can answer the intercom and remotely unlock the front door if appropriate.

Ubiquiti Intercom System

Intercoms have been installed to allow guests and visitors to be buzzed into the building remotely from inside the following Ace suites:

  • Suite 206 Ace Coworking Textiles
  • Suite 113 Ace Laser Metal
  • Suite 114 Ace Workshop
  • Suite 214 Ace Clean Fab

How the Intercom Works

When a visitor arrives at the front entrance, they can:

  1. Select or call the appropriate suite/intercom
  2. Speak with the person inside
  3. Be granted access remotely if approved

Authorized users inside the listed suites can answer the intercom and unlock the front door without leaving their workspace.

General Instructions for Intercom

Receiving a Call

When someone rings your suite from the front entrance:

  • The intercom monitor installed near the entrance of the Suite will ring or display a notification
  • Answer the call to speak with the visitor
  • Confirm the identity of the guest before granting access

Unlocking the Door

If you want to let the visitor in:

  • Press the Unlock button in the intercom interface/app
  • The front door will unlock briefly to allow entry

Do not unlock the door for unknown or unverified visitors.

Visitor Guidelines

Visitors should:

  • Use the intercom directory or call button for the suite they are visiting
  • Wait for a response before attempting entry
  • Clearly state their name and reason for visiting

Security Notes

  • Do not grant building access to anyone you do not recognize or are not expecting
  • Ensure exterior doors close completely after entry
  • Report any intercom issues or suspicious activity on Slack

Telephone System for Access

Calling

  • When users call 510-545-3245 they get routed to the phones in the space
  • Nobody is obligated to answer the phones unless they are hosting an event
  • The front door keypad used to be linked to the cordless phones in the space. That is no longer the case, so people at the outside door can no longer be buzzed in through the phone system and instead should use the intercom. (Prior to the intercom installation on May 9 2026, guests of Ace Makerspace needed to be let in by going to the front door in person.)
