Like many things Ace does we have hacked and refined how we use slack. Below are some of the shortcuts for accessing integrations and getting the attention you are after.
Contact Teams
Use the following shortcuts to contact teams of people who can help you with specific things. Many things should be sent to teams for the test response. Asking general questions in the community is often a great way to get good quick answers… for example, all members have key fobs so if you locked yourself out of a room, ping for help on general. DO NOT USE @Channel unless it is a true emergency.
@support – Use for general questions and member support. Where things are, help with getting a fob, new member help stuff, questions about where to find information, and how things work.
@facilities – Use this to report on doors, janitorial supplies, honor bars, signage, storage, broken general things (Stuff without an asset tag)
@officers – Use this to asks for specific help, offers of specific general help, offers to volunteer, issues with your member account or escalation, ideas for cool general things Ace could do/have/change. This is not used for tool-specific help as that is the domain of the stewards.
@teamlaser – This ping gets the attention of the entire 4-person distributed leadership team that runs the Laser Program at Ace. Use this to asks for specific help, offers of laser specific help offers to volunteer in the Laser Program, ideas for cool things for the Laser Program. Do not use this to report issues with tools that have asset tags. Please use the /asset technique to report tool-based issues.
@team-workshop – This ping gets the attention of the entire 4-person distributed leadership team that runs the Workshop Program at Ace. Use this to asks for specific help, offers of Workshop specific help offers to volunteer in the Workshop program, ideas for cool things for the Workshop program. Do not use this to report issues with tools that have asset tags. Please use the /asset technique to report tool-based issues.
@board – The Ace board of directors… call attention to something, ask questions about strategy, etc.
Flag a person in a post
@crafty – Use when responding to a call for organization help, emergencies, etc. Do not use for general help or if you think it will just get a faster response.
@(choose the stewards name) – Use this when you need to ask a question or need specific help from the steward. Example: if a tool needs new blades. Though a /asset ping works even better. Another example is if you need policy clarification or a neat idea you want to contribute to on their domain.
Integrations (slash commands)
These are actions you start by typing a slash (/) and then a command to get something specific done. When you type / in slack a prompt will come up.
/asset – Use slash asset with an asset code (example: /asset AMT200) to:
- find out the status of an asset
- The thing acting strangely
- The thing is broken
- The thing is fixed
- People need to know about the thing
- You cleaned or maintained the thing
/task – use this code to report about contributions you make at Ace. This information helps us celebrate people and have a better idea about all the work it takes to keep things awesome.
/buy – Use this code to request that the organization buy something. For example when we are out of something like earplugs or paper towels. Or when you think something is needed to make the ACE experience more awesome and inclusive. Not all requests will be possible but we are listening.

Please do not use @channel unless you are part of one of the leadership teams. Please only use @here to convey information that everybody in the group needs to know. Do you use either @channel or @here to ask questions.
