Ace Makerspace Class/Event Refund Policy
Effective: October 2019
It is Ace Makerspace’s policy to offer refunds only in extraordinary circumstances or if we cancel the class/event. Refunds are not offered to participants who cancel their RSVP or withdraw from a class; please only sign-up for a class if you can assure that you will be able to participate. Refunds are not offered for no-shows, late arrivals, or early departures. We value you as part of the AMT community, and as a member of our community, please understand that we will not offer refunds (partial or in full) in most cases.
Class fees are non-transferable to another class. Students can “sell” their seat in a class to somebody else, but the student is wholly responsible for organizing this with the instructor and the other participant. If you desire to “sell” your seat post a comment to the event on MeetUp and/or the relevant channel on the Ace Slack workspace.
Purpose of the Refund Policy
Our class model relies on running full classes. Refunds subsidize the cost of running classes below their ideal capacity. Processing refunds use up volunteer resources, and Ace is charged processing fees, even on refunded transactions. A refund ends up costing Ace time and money.
Canceled Classes
If the class is canceled by Ace Makerspace or a class instructor, a refund is offered to participants who’ve RSVPed via Meetup.
When a class needs to be canceled,
- The instructor should e-mail the treasurer with the name and date of the canceled class plus the name and contact information of each person who paid.
- Using Organizer Tools within Meetup, cancel the event
- Contact anyone who signed up to explain the situation and let them know when the next class will be
How to request a refund
If you would like a refund for the class, please review the list of circumstances below to see if you qualify for a refund in this instance.
Circumstances
- Personal medical emergencies
- Bereavement
- Travel emergency (aka, your plane was canceled, and you can’t get back in time. Not, I need to travel unexpectedly.)
- Schedule adjustment
- Convenience
- Found something else you wanted to do more
- Forgot about the class/membership
- Failure to complete waivers or other setup tasks
If you believe that your reason for a refund request is valid, complete this form. Submissions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Refunds take 7-10 days for Ace to review. Refunds are processed within 5 business days of approval. Funds will be available based on when your financial institution processes the refund.
