Member-to-Member Project Groups at Ace Makerspace are a great way to collaborate, share knowledge, and build a stronger maker community! Below are the guidelines to help you set up and run these informal skill-shares effectively:
What is a Project Group?
A Project Group is an informal gathering where 3 or more Ace members come together to:
- Collaboratively work on a project, or
- Share knowledge and skills with each other
Guidelines for Hosting a Project Group Session
1. No Payment for Instruction
- Members may not request payment for teaching or instruction.
- Members can reimburse each other directly for materials if needed.
- Clearly communicate material costs upfront before starting the project to ensure everyone agrees.
- If your project groups require use of the Workshop, avoid high-traffic times (weekends before 6pm or weekdays after 6 PM).
- If your project groups require quiet dibs that affects the Laser, CNC Router, Clean Fab, and Workshop spaces, avoid high-traffic times (weekdays after 6pm, weekends before 6pm)
- Please check the Ace calendar to make sure your project groups don’t conflict with other scheduled courses.
- If your project groups need to meet during a high-traffic time, reach out to Katie Harrell on Slack to discuss options.
3. Tool Certification Notes
- Ensure all participants are certified for any tool or equipment that requires it.
- Note: Project groups cannot be used for tool certification purposes.
-
To Calendar or Not To Calendar? Totally Your Choice
- You’re welcome to have your project group posted on the Ace calendar to let more members know about your project group.
- Please note that project groups will only be available to Ace members.
- Reach out to Katie Harrell on Slack for assistance.
- You’re also welcome to organize your project group on just Slack or with a handful of members without posting to the calendar.
5. Leave the Space Better Than You Found It
- Always clean up after your group and leave the area Better Than You Found It.
