This page is a list of all the to-do’s and project to get us a nice finished classroom. Let us seek to find a balance between cheap, fast and good when deciding what course we take while building components.
Currently there are sticky notes on the walls for the future homes of things. Our first move in session is Monday, May 19th. Our as final as possible move in date is June 15th. Interim usable states will be announced between now and then for member use.
Classroom configurations
The Classroom – Textile space will be highly reconfigurable. These being the primary configurations to date:
- Ready state – Tables and chairs stacked, large area clear, cut tables against the walls (default state of the room)
- Lecture state – All primary furniture flush against the walls chairs in rows/circle in the main area of the room
- Code/table top teaching state – Folding tables in rows with chairs (or other configuration that allows folks table top surface with sitting (all other furniture flush against the wall)
- Textile state– Chairs/Tables stacked, cutting tables in the center of the room for surface.
Furniture – elements + requirements

Cutting Table – Current Plan
Dead link [http://wiki.acemonstertoys.org/Cut-Storage_Tables (Click Here for detailed page about the project)]
- Build two tables that are identical so they can be pushed up against each other in the center of the room to create the awesome cutting surface.
- The final surface should be approx. 30 to 34″ high (debate still rages over perfect height) but it should be ultra smooth. We can get these from between 0/$24 – $45 each. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80251358/ – They are 78 3/4×23 5/8″.
- Using those we could attach 6 legs with L brackets and casters. Along with a base for storage out of .5″ plywood.
- This rough plan comes in around $120 per table assuming we buy everything… with freebies it could run very much cheaper.
- We have a $100 pledge right now for these tables. SEEKING: Donations and design ideas.
Table Top Sewing furniture- Current Plan
- Get super inexpensive but smooth table like this: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49932651/ (I picked one up with legs today off CL, Can be used as is until wheeled build out is complete) (SEEKING: People to find them for free and pick them up from CL.. if cash Crafty will pay up to $20 with legs) – DONE!!
- Add a drawer to the bottom of the table top like these: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/60198041/ (purchase and installation pending final leg design)
- Replace the legs with wooden legs and casters resulting in a table 28″ table surface (SEEKING: Design or method for doing this well on a budget)
- Add dedicated task lighting to each desk.
White Board
We are seeking a way to mount the extra white board that is up stairs down stairs with as little framing as possible. SEEKING: Someone to run point and find out hardware requirements. – DONE!!
Projector
We have a projector. We should mount it on the ceiling. Yet make it accessible for folks to hook computers and such too it. SEEKING: Someone to sort out a plan and any hardware/cable/wifi needs for doing so. – DONE!!
Power along the back wall – DONE!!
We need to run power along the back wall with at least 6 outlets. SEEKING: A lead or volunteer for doing so. – DONE!!
Vertical Bike Storage
It has been suggested to use this room as bike storage… this is still up in the air. To make it a sustainable proposition, we will need vertical storage. SEEKING: Someone to design a easy to use solution that doesn’t impair use of the room in any configuration.
