Make/Model: Delta Scroll Saw Model 40-601
S/N: 80C07455
Location: Workshop
Overview
A scroll saw has a short, reciprocating blade. It can cut curves, including very small radius turns with small enough blades. It has a broad round table to support your work in all orientations. The blade can be easily removed, which allows you to cut on the inside of a closed shape, such as the inside of a circle.
This scroll saw has variable speed, which allows you to work on more delicate materials with lower speeds.
Safety
As with any saw, keep your fingers clear of the blade while the saw is on and always wear eye protection while the saw is in use. In addition:
- Do not start the saw with the work in contact with the blade.
- Do not work heavy or oversized stock – if the stock can fall off the table it is dangerous to use the scroll saw on it.
- Be careful of the reciprocating parts above the saw – they can move very fast and can cause an injury
Use
- Make sure the blade is tensioned. There is a small lever at the top of the blade. It should be pushed back toward the back of the saw to tension the blade.
- Turn the speed knob up to a suitable speed for your project:
- The lowest speeds allow you to cut delicate materials such as paper, balsa wood and
- Medium speeds allow you to cut thin but durable materials like thin plywood, some plastics and vaneers
- Higher speeds allow you to cut any kind of size of wood
- Take your time – this isn’t a fast cutting saw
- You can move the stock forward and back while cutting, like a bandsaw
- There is no dust collection, so thoroughly vacuum up all sawdust and small offcuts
- There are spare blades in the plastic drawer labeled blades under the bench by the planer
Maintenance
Monthly
- Check whether table is square to blade
- Check table top and clean if there is pitch or glue on it
- Deep vacuum
- Check the blade – replace if it is dull
- Check plug end
