Storage at ACE – old

Summary

  • Members can store things for free in all Basic Member Storage areas. See details, ettiquette and limits below.
  • Members should not use Ace Storage for their “stash of materials”

Storage Policy

General Storage Policy

  • DO NOT AT ANY TIME PILE THINGS IN CORNERS or store them anywhere else besides designated storage areas
  • ACE is a shared space for working on projects not a place to store materials long term
  • Tools and goods for personal use may only be stored in the designated storage area or in personal lockers and not in workspaces
  • ACE and ACE storage cannot be used as a drop-off exchange location for folks to trade, sell or give things to other members/people. DO NOT LEAVE STUFF HERE FOR OTHERS TO PICK UP.
  • ACE is not responsible for loss or damage of personal belongings
  • Waste materials are things like the leftover board you laser-cut something out of. We don’t want your waste materials. If you leave your waste materials here, we have to pay somebody to clean up after you. No bueno. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR WASTE MATERIALS HERE. Example: you bring in a sheet of plywood and laser half of it. You want to leave the other half for general use. Cut off the waste board and take it or throw it away. Leave only the good stuff in the multi-purpose bin.
  • There are two types of storage at Ace Makerspace; Rented storage and Basic Member storage. Each area has its own rules and parameters. ALL items at ACE must be tagged with the relevant tag. See How Tags Work below.

Basic Members Storage Policy

  • ACE is a place for active projects. That means you are actively using your stuff at least every two weeks if it is stored in Basic Member Storage.
  • We use a tagging system and all member goods must be tagged. Extra tags are stored on the grey cleaning supplies closet in suite #113 Storage.
  • You need to use good judgment on how much space you are using in basic member storage. Be considerate and don’t bogart storage.
  • Untagged items in the Basic Member Storage area are considered fair game and available to all members.

How Tags Work

All member-owned items at Ace must be tagged. Extra tags are stored on the grey cleaning supplies closet in suite #113 Storage. Any materials that are not tagged in all member storage areas are considered fair game and available to all members.

Blue Tags

Projects or items shouldn’t be left at ACE unless they are being actively worked upon by a member in good standing. By active, you touch it at least every two weeks. Store items in only designated areas. If your materials are dated more than 14 days old they will be considered abandoned and will be red-tagged. NOBODY IS GOING TO CHASE YOU DOWN VIA EMAIL OR OTHERWISE. You are responsible for your materials.

Red Tags

Reasons items may be red-tagged. Expired blue tag, stored in an improper area, No blue tag. If this item belongs to you please remove it ASAP. After 15 days from the notice, this item will be considered abandoned. Abandoned materials may be re-purposed, consumed or disposed of at the discretion of ACE. Members may call dibs on red-tagged items and claim them after the date.

Project Storage

There is set of open shelves in #113 marked Project storage. They are specifically for short-term project storage. They are not for general materials storage or Ace organization project storage.

  • Projects should not overhang the shelves by more than 2 inches in any direction.
  • Members should use ladders to safely access the top shelves.
  • Be considerate about how much storage you use for longer periods of time. For example: Using 30% of the storage for 2-3 weeks while you build something is okay. Using 30% of the storage for several months or more, not okay.

Glue-up and Finishing Projects

There is a flexible area in Storage (suite #113). Members can put up a folding table and use them for finishing and to leave glue-ups overnight. Please observe the following etiquette for glue-ups:

  • Do not block shelves or the bike parking area
  • Use a folding table not the floor
  • Plan on no more than 48 hours for your glue-ups, preferably 24 hours (If you need community help cause you can’t come back, ask for it)
  • Always post a photo to general and let folks know when you will be back and when they can pull the ACE Clamps so they can use them
